Mullingar Hospital again top of effiency list

Mullingar Hospital has come top of the entire list of Irish hospitals in terms of productivity again this year, according to the latest Casemix figures released by the Health Services Executive. As a result, the Hospital is due a positive budget adjustment of €1.977m, in recognition of its achievement. By contrast, Tullamore Hospital has come third from the bottom of the list, and Tallaght Hospital comes right in at the end in terms of efficiency and productivity.Mullingar trounces big name hospitals such as St. James", Beaumont and the Mater.Mullingar has topped or come close to top of the list for several years now, but there have been complaints in the past that the hospital never sees the reward for its efficiency.'It"s not a very transparent process. It"s hard to see it. The whole idea is that the good hospitals get rewarded, and the less good ones don"t, and it"s seen as a way of incentivising hospitals to function as efficiently as they can,' a senior staff member at the hospital told theWestmeath Examiner this week.'Mullingar is performing at the top of its class, and it"s evidence of just how efficient the hospital is, and now, with the review of the public service underway, that"s very much in the public mind, andI think it"s important that it"s clear to all that Mullingar is very efficient and gives very good value.
