GAA, local solicitors nominated for LAMA awards
Both Coralstown/Kinnegad GAA Club and a local law practice are among five Westmeath nominees for the 2009 Zurich Local Authority"s Members Association (LAMA) Awards.The local GAA club and Hamilton Sheahan & Co. Solicitors were nominated by Westmeath LAMA representative, Cllr. Pat McLoughlin (Fine Gael) for the awards, which celebrate excellence in Construction, Engineering and infrastructure projects as nominated by Local authorities, for their outstanding contributions and benefit to the community.Coralstown/Kinnegad GAA"s home venue to the rear of the Manorfield housing estate in Kinnegad has been nominated as Best Sporting Facility, while Hamilton Sheahan will contest the Best Professional Consultancy Practice category.Also named on the shortlist were architect Patrick Weafer (Best Architect), Mullingar Arts Centre (Best Arts Building) and Belvedere House, Gardens and Park (Best Heritage Project).Hamilton Sheahan and Co., based on Kinnegad"s Dublin Road, is a long established and reputable legal firm run by Rita Hamilton and Aine Sheahan.Coralstown/Kinnegad"s GAA Pavilion, meanwhile, has been subject to some substantial development over the past few years, and recently, the club was granted permission by Westmeath County Council to install a spectator"s stand at the venue.Winners of the various categories for the 2009 LAMA Awards will be revealed at a gala ceremony on January 24, 2009 at the CityWest hotel, hosted by Primetime presenter, Miriam O"Callaghan.Builders sought for Clonard ChurchThe Parish of Kinnegad is seeking building contractors to carry out the proposed refurbishment and extension of St. Finian"s Church, Clonard in the New Year, it emerged this week.Parishioners in both Kinnegad and Clonard were told this weekend that works at the church will amount to a general refurbishment of the building, including a reconstruction of the roof, new external lime rendering, new mechanical and electrical services and the construction of a new Sacristy.Main building contractors, plumbers and electricians interested in attaching themselves to the project are asked to submit their expression of interest in writing to the Chairperson, Parish Finance Team, c/o the Parochial House, Kinnegad no later than January 30, 2009.Meanwhile, parishioners in Kinnegad are asked to take note that the Church of the Assumption, Kinnegad will close after 8.30am Mass on Friday next, December 19 and will remain closed for the day, in order to facilitate a major cleaning of the building ahead of Christmas celebrations.Healing MassA Mass of Healing will be celebrated at St. Camillus Nursing Centre Chapel in Killucan on Friday night next, December 19 at 8pm. All are welcome to attend.Also this week, students from the Schola Cantorum at St. Finian"s College, Mullingar will perform a number of Christmas carols at St. Camillus" on Wednesday night of this week, December 17 at 8.30pm, to raise funds for the Killucan home. The offices will close on New Year"s Eve (December 31), and will reopen again on the morning of Friday, January 2, 2009.The management, staff and directors of Kinnegad Credit Union have taken the opportunity to wish all members a very happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.Five match three winnersThere were five match three winners in last week"s Coralstown/Kinnegad GAA Lucky Numbers Draw, though a jackpot winner has yet to be found.The numbers drawn were 5, 9, 13 and 25, and the match three winners were Collette Eades, Michelle Kelleher, Tommy Dunne, Fergus Ennis and Ellen Loran.It was a similar story across the county boundary in neighbouring Clonard, where there was no winner of the €12,800 and €11,800 jackpots in the Clonard GAA and Community Development Lotto Draw. The numbers drawn were 2, 9, 11 and 24, and the match three winners were Mary and J. McEvoy, and Maureen Dixon.
