As the closing date for Texaco Children"s Art Competition approaches, one student"s success in last year"s contest is paying dividends as her painting is to appear on a TV ad encouraging artists to get there entries in before February 27.Rebecca Hannevig from Moycashel in Kilbeggan had her painting of a French cafe chosen along with two other entries to feature in the ad which is set to run on RTE in the coming weeks.The 30-second advertisement aims to further boost the popular competition which has seen some spectacular entries over the last 55 years and past winners include the fashion designer Paul Costelloe.The competition has become an integral part of the school calendar in Ireland. Closing date for entries this year is Friday February and judging begins in March.The much antcipated results will be announced in April and the winners will go to a ceremont in Dublin to collect their prizes in May.Still going for goldKilbeggan man Jim Langan who has been member of Tullamore Harriers Athletics club for the past 40 years had a great year in athletics in track road races and cross country for the year 2008. Jim first started running with his local club Kilbeggan AC back in 1956 and now has the honour of being the longest surviving runner in Westmeath and Offaly,Highlights include winning the Leinster Masters 800 and 1500 metres track championships over 65years. third in all Ireland Masters Indoor 800 metres over 65, third in all Ireland Masters Cross Country over 65 and running for Ireland in 2008 British and Irish Masters International Cross Country Championship in Swansea, Wales, finishing in 14th place and first Irish over 65 Master to finish in 2007.
