Moate Golf Club notes

Membership Reminder: Members are reminded that the new season has now started and membership is due for renewal. A number of significant changes are in place this year.In particular (i) an easy payment scheme, (ii) the removal of the Entry Levy, (iii) the re-opening of Country Membership and (iv) changes to some Green Fee rates. The Management Committee, following a recommendation from the AGM introduced the following Green Fee changes: A member may purchase any number of Green Fee vouchers (€15) and bring up to 3 visitors per round during the year. This allows all of the visitors to avail of a reduced rate, rather than just one as is currently the case.In addition there is a reduced Winter Green Fee rate of €20 until April 2009.Winter LeagueWinter League qualification continues until next Sunday, February 15 with the Grand Final still on track for Sunday, February 22.While the weather has played havoc with the schedule, more than 20 teams are nearing completion. Well done to all of them, but it is still too early to predict what the qualification mark will be. Brendan Kehoe, Michael McLoughlin, JJ Guinan and Frank Kiernan seem certain to qualify, with a mad scramble for the lower qualifying places among a number of teams.A quiet weekLike most golf courses around the country, last week was a quiet week at Moate Golf Club, where once again the weather ensured that very little golf was played. This time the culprit was frost and snow, which meant that not even temporary greens were available. However, several regular golfers were spotted around the hardware stores, using the opportunity to turn their talents to 'house' improvement rather than 'swing' improvement! Congratulations also to Club Captain, Dermot Kenny, who celebrated a 'significant' birthday over the weekend. The Captains Drive-in is scheduled for Sunday, March 1, timesheet now available.
