Cadbury scholarship award for talented Westmeath footballer

Westmeath and Mullingar Shamrocks footballer Kieran Gavin was one of two recipients of a Cadbury Football Scholarship in Dublin College University on February 9.Kieran, a first year engineering student at Dublin City University, has represented Westmeath at Under 14, Under 16, minor, Under 21 and senior level.In 2007, he made his senior inter-county debut for Westmeath and in 2008 started every competitive game for Westmeath and won the NFL Division 2 title the same year.He has been a stalwart for Mullingar Shamrocks and first started playing for them at U-8 level and has won a county minor championship with the club as well as two county Under 21 titles.Kieran is currently on Dublin City University"s Sigerson Cup team, and was part of the DCU team which reached this year"s O"Byrne Cup Final.He is the second Westmeath footballer to be awarded a Cadbury Scholarship this year as John Connellan from Athlone received his scholarship at NUIG last November.Commenting at the scholarship presentation, Shane Guest, Senior Brand Manager, Cadbury Ireland said: 'This is Cadbury Ireland"s fourth year as sponsor of the Football Under 21 Championship and we regard it as an honour to sponsor the Under 21 Championship.
