St. Pauls prove the masters in league clash

St. Joseph"s hosted old rivals St. Pauls at the Community field on Saturday, March 28 in what was our second league game of the year. We fielded once again short a number of players against full strength opposition and while the result was a loss, there were some positives from the game. The game saw St. Pauls make a flying start, aided by a strong breeze in the first half, and three points in the first five minutes saw them into an early lead. A goal conceded in the 7th minute saw them push ahead and it was an Aidan Lennon point from play on 11 minutes that got St. Josephs off the mark. St. Pauls were the sharper side and it was evident in their finishing which saw them get some fine points from play.A goal finished off by Neil Keegan following some good work by Padraic Moran and Padraic Seery gave St. Josephs a foothold but we trailed at the break by 1-10 to 1-1. St. Josephs started the second half positively and another Aidan Lennon point reduced the deficit. St Josephs had the better of the exchanges over the next ten minutes but only added one more point in that period through Daire Lynam. Poor defending saw us concede a second goal after 14 minutes but this was cancelled out on the 20th minute with Declan Nannery firing home from the penalty spot.Further points were added in the final minutes to leave eight between the sides at the end. The major difference between the sides in this game was sharpness. Our training has been poorly attended to date and when this is rectified, results will improve. At Saturday"s game, the determination shown on the field of play was commendable and this was the main positive aspect taken from this match.Team: Ciaran Seery, John McDonnell, Michael Larrigy, Pat McCormack, Neil Keegan, Brendan Nannery, Keith Adamson, Aidan Lennon, Declan Nannery, Richie Meares, Daire Lynam, Padraic Moran, Don Scally, Padraic Seery, John Digan.
