There was a very good turnout of members and visitors for the annual Annebrook House Hotel any combination open fourball better ball competition over the Easter week end.Despite the heavy going caused by the heavy rains of Wednesday on Thursday night, playing conditions, while a bit on the heavy side, were quite good. The scoring was outstanding with three quarters of the handicap applying, with a couple of pairs returning forty five points.The popular winners were Mullingar men Murty and Vivien Quinn playing out of Castle Barna on the tie break rule from Bernard Mc Donnell and Ross McKinley. Third spot went to local father and son pairing, John G and Barry Kelly with forty four points, while the winners of the fourth prize were Michael Liddy and Sean Nulty on the break of a tie with two other pairings with forty three stableford points. The arctic conditions which prevailed made scoring very difficult, especially during the heavy hail and rain showers and tested competitors to the limit. However Chris Garry battled through to take the first prize from in- form Ted Eighan. Third prize went to the consistent John Tweddle, while the worthy winner of the super seniors" prize was one of the early starters Maurice Wallace. Not this year. On Thursday last Anne Grehan"s team were victorious over Dorothy O"Keeffe"s team to wrap the event up for 2009. Siobhan Ruane, a member of the winning team said 'it was very windy on the front nine, we were blown up the fourth, and glad of the hand warmers provided by The Lady Captain. Overall the golf was good and I was one of the ones lucky to have played well.'The winning team was Anne Grehan, Siobhán Ruane, Lilly Donoghue, Regina Healy and Noreen Abbott. Runners-up were, Dorothy O"Keeffe, Carmel Maher, Liz Armstrong, Phyllis Donnelly and Martha Reynolds. Well done to all.There was a fine turn out for Wednesdays scotch foursomes. Top pairing were Anne Hannon and Siobhan O"Donnell Murphy with 39 points.Runners-up were the Dominick St. pairing of Joanne Killian and Miriam McManus who carded 37 points. The best gross went to Dorothy O"Keeffe and Anne Marie Fagan with 21 points and in third place were Nora McCormack and Lilly O"Donoghue with 36 points. In conjunction with Lady Captain"s prize to the men on Sunday next there will be a nine hole event for the ladies.
