Multyfarnham Notes

Multyfarnham was in deep sadness over the Easter Weekend with the sudden death Jimmy Nally.A native of Clonave, Multyfarnham, Jimmy ultimately moved to Fearbranagh.A hard working man all his life, giving generously of his time to the local community and local organisations, Jimmy"s working life began with Bord na Móna, and he later, up to his retirement, worked at the Douwe Egberts tobacco factory in Mullingar (now Imperial Tobacco). In 1982 and 1983 Jimmy managed Multyfarnham"s handball team which in Community Games won two national titles. He was like a dad to all the team. Along with a love of the handball he loved his fishing and is known all over Ireland for his work with the Derravaragh Anglers and for representing his country. He was laid to rest with his daughter Cathlene. Deepest sympathy to his wife Mary, daughters Sinead, Celine, Josie, sons Seamus Mark and Andy. Jimmy will be sorely missed by all in the community.Cold duck soupThe Duck Race took place On Easter Monday alone with the Easter Egg Hunt although the weather was not the best everyone enjoyed the Day. Georgia O Broin was delighted she picked Duck number 137 as this duck took the lead from the start and will surly be favourite for next year"s race! Well done Georgia. Thanks to everyone who took part not only in the organization but also for turning up on the day.Tidy TownsA big effort is under way to get the village up to standard for this year"s competition. The school was given a massive face lift which saw some trees removed, new planting carried out, plastering of the front wall, and painting of the exterior of the building. Thanks to everyone who gave their time over the last two weeks. Anyone interested in getting more involved in the Tidy Towns can turn up when the group meets in the village every Thursday evening at 7 pm.Multy underage GAAOn Monday last Multyfarnham"s U16s were defeated by Caulry in a very entertaining game despite being short four of regulars who were away.
