Camogie President pays visit to Westmeath
The new President of Cumann Camogaoichta na nGael, Joan O"Flynn, visited the Westmeath Camogie Board at their recent monthly meeting.Joan gave a very inspiring talk to all the delegates from all the clubs in attendance that night. Joan spoke of the future for camogie in Ireland in completing our strategic plan, and her vision and improvements she hopes to see happen in the next three years of her tenure at the helm. The President encouraged an open forum to all the delegates present, to ask any questions or concerns they may have about our National game. Joan answered these questions and gave some suggestions of how we can move forward in Westmeath in our clubs and then working our way up to intercounty, and nationally. We also had the Leinster Regional Development Officer, Gerard Gribben from Armagh speaking to the delegates at this meeting. He also shared his vision for camogie and will be supporting us in implementing the strategic plan. The president Joan O"Flynn, congratulated the executive committee and all the clubs for their work to date in bringing Westmeath camogie to where it is today, acknowledging the work carried out by all the volenteers.Joan congratulated the Under 16 county team who, under the guidance and commitment of Jackie Jackson (Castletown) and Cally Donovan (Cullion) won their first All-Ireland title at this level. She also congratulated our Junior team who recently contested the National League Final but were runners-up to Kildare. Joan congratulated the girls on a really great display of camogie that day, and felt their was only a puck of the ball between the two teams. She was full of praise as well for all of the club players who were on the St. Finians school team who won their first Leinster title this year, beating a school from Wexford. She noted how encouraging it was to see all the National school teams who played in Cusack Park recently, playing camogie, and representing their schools. One of those schools, Fore, found themselves contesting a final in the very first year that camogie has been played in their school. It was a great achievement !The Westmeath Camogie Board would like to thank Joan and Gerard for their visit, taking time out from their busy schedules.
