Moate Golf Club
There will be no weekend competition this weekend as the club hosts the Jimmy Bruen regional qualification. The Club matchplay and Mixed foursomes matchplay draws are now available in the clubhouse and will be available on the Web Site during the week. The Club shop will stay open until 7pm (weekdays) for the remainder of the summer. Congratulations to one of Moate"s oldest members, PJ Grogan, who produced a hole-in-one on the 4th hole last Friday evening.Jimmy Bruen Regional QualifyingMoate host the regional qualifying for the Jimmy Bruen Trophy next weekend. This is an important showcase for the club and the combination of fine weather and the excellent work by Tommy Coughlan and the ground staff will ensure that the course is turned out magnificently. Fourteen teams are expected for the qualification competition on Saturday morning and Moate can expect to do well on home territory. The top 4 teams qualify for the knockout stages on Sunday. Members are urged to turn up to support the team, who tee-off alongside Mount Temple at 9.00 am.Inter Club CompetitionsThis year has been one of the most successful ever in Inter Club competitions and the successes continued this week. First up, the Barton Cup team progressed at the expense of Knockanally last week. Things did not get off to a good start at home when Kit Geoghegan/Dom FitzPatrick lost on the 18th, but John Foster/Brendan Keogh steadied the ship with victory as early as the 14th. Away from home Paul Fogarty/Adrian Conroy ran out winners on the 16th and Micheal Kelly/Ian Flanagan sealed the win on the 18th green. Paul Coughlan/Stephen Coughlan were locked in a great battle on the 20th when they were called in. Manager PJ Higgins can expect more good days from this squad.Meanwhile the Duggan Cup team, led by Ollie Seery and Kevin Rohan, secured a great win against near neighbours, Mount Temple, at the weekend. There was plenty of friendly rivalry and Moate laid the foundation for the win with a superb performance away from home. Seamus Dolan/Michael O"Brien took the first victory against Tom Maguire/Pat Buckley on the 13th hole. Frank Kiernan/Brendan Hanniffy parred the 17th and 18th to win against Tony Brennan/Tom Loddick. Phil Behan/Paddy Fox had a great battle against John Buckley/Donie Brazil, where the Mount Temple boys were victorious on the 17th. At home Trevor Hill/John Buckley ensured the overall win on the 14th against Michael Cunningham/Michael FitzPatrick. The final match (Johnny Mullally/Billy Coughlan v Gerry Rohan/Joe Ganly) was called in on the 16th, with Moate 1-down at that time. The winners of Roscrea and The Heritage await Moate in the next round.Ladies ClubThe winners of the Wednesday competition were: 1st Amy Farrell (9) - 38 pts (bk 9), 2nd Sheila Flanagan (18) - 38 pts and 3rd Mary Rohan (18) 36 pts.Congratulations to the Miele Fourball team who had a great win against the Heath Golf Club on Sunday 31st. Eileen White and Olive Costello playing at home won their match on the 13th, while Anna O"Brien and Geraldine Coughlin playing away won their match on the 15th. Carmel Connolly and Mags Galvin were called in 2up on the 16th and Amy Farrell and Eleanor Fitzpatrick were called in on the 15th with their match level. The team managers were Kathleen Grogan and Marian Mullen. Good luck to the Junior Cup team against the Curragh on Sunday 7th June and to the Minor Cup team against Rathdowney on Monday 8th of June.There will be a presentation of prizes on Wednesda, June 3 at 9.30pm for all prizes won in May.
