Something that might be of interest to Bord na Mona workers living in and around Rochfortbridge are the public consultations for a proposed Wind Farm development in Mountlucas.Bord na Móna intends to apply for planning permission to construct a Wind Farm on one of its cutaway bogs at Mountlucas. The proposed Wind Farm will have a generating capacity of 80 MW and will comprise of 32 wind turbines, access trackways, crane hard-standings, underground cables between the turbines and a 110 kV electricity substation.In order for members of the general public to be informed fully about the proposed development Bord na Móna has arranged two public consultation sessions, one to be held in the Town Hall in Daingean on June 23 between 4pm and 9pm, and the other in the Community Hall in Walsh Island on June 24.Staff will be on hand to deal with any concerns or questions that you might have and to listen to any observations that people may wish to make.An information leaflet, together with a questionnaire, will be available for attendees to take away and use later and comments/recommendations will be welcome at any time through to the end of the planning process. Please note, however, that in order for comments/recommendations to be considered in terms of the Environmental Impact Statement being prepared as part of the statutory planning process, a response is required no later than close of business on Friday 17th July 2009.Scouting in and around MilltownpassThe members of the 9th Westmeath Milltownpass Scout Group are in the middle of their busiest and most exciting term.As the group prepares to finish up for the Summer break they have a number of exciting events just completed and others to look forward to over the coming weeks.On Sunday June 7 last, the Beaver Colony of the Scout Group hosted a very successful County Event - the Ciaran Nolan Memorial Fun Day, which took place at the Milltownpass Sportsfield.The sun shone for this very special event which was organised when earlier this year the group lost one of its best loved characters when Beaver Leader Ciaran Nolan passed away after a short illness.When the Group considered doing something in Ciaran"s memory the Fun Day was most the likely event. It was made all the more special when Milltownpass won the overall prize and it was a very proud moment for the Milltownpass Scout Group and the Nolan Family when Ciaran"s son James - a Beaver Scout with the Group - presented Liam Gorman of Milltownpass with the Ciaran Nolan Perpetual Trophy.Group Leader Loreto Flanagan would like to thank all those who helped out; Kilbeggan, Killucan and Mullingar Beaver Scouts who joined them on the day and to Brendan Martin County Commissioner who also attended.Line dancing nightOn Saturday June 20th next the Scout Group have a very exciting fund raiser - a Line Dancing Night at the Parish Hall in Rochfortbridge. Admission is €10 with refreshments served on the night, and dancing is from 9 to 12, so get the cowboy boots and stetsons out to support the local Scout group and have a great night out!The group finishes up for Summer break on Saturday/Sunday June 28/29, with all sections Beavers, Cubs and Scouts on Saturday, June 27 heading to Portlick Scout Camp near Glasson in Athlone.The Beavers will spend the day with the Cubs and Scouts on the shores of Lough Ree enjoying the water sports and activities available on site and will head home on the Saturday evening leaving the Cubs and Scouts to camp overnight. This will be the final event of the term for the Beaver Colony.Annual CampThe Cub Pack and Scout Troop are at present planning their Annual Camp and plans are well underway for an exciting adventure to the Isle of Man in July.Roll Books are now closed for the 09/10 term and application forms for new members will be sent out in August with a Registration Night is planned for September 2 and a start date of Friday, September 11 is provisionally planned.The Group would like to thank everyone for their support over the past year and look forward to continued support for the new term starting in September.Tidy Town"s adjudication underwayThe Tidy Town"s adjudication process is already underway and Dave Raftis of the Rochfortbridge Committee said they are grateful for all the support they have received from the local community in the run-up to the competition:'Rochfortbridge Tidy Towns Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank the local schools, residents, resident associations, and local businesses in their readiness and preparation for the Tidy Towns Adjudication Process which is currently underway,' said Mr. Raftis.'We know that the Rochfortbridge community have, and are, continuing to work very hard in making Rochfortbridge a cleaner and healthier environment, and we sincerely hope that the great effort of voluntary work that is being done is reflected in the Adjudication Report due out later this year,' he continued.Despite the fact that judging is now underway, Mr. Raftis pointed out that the Tidy Town"s work would be ongoing:'The Tidy Towns work will continue throughout the summer months and if anybody would like to offer any help, new idea"s, or assistance please contact either myself or Bernard Bradley in the Post Office,' he said.St. Brigid"s Hurling Club notesThe St. Brigid"s Hurling Club team ran out easy winners against Southern Gaels after a hard fought battle on Saturday last, and now go on to play Delvin in the intermediate championship on Friday, June 26 at 7.45 in St. Lomans, Mullingar.Also on Saturday, July 4 there is a Junior Championship game versus Turin in Turin at 7.30p.m.Well Done!Laura Heavey from Derrygreenagh in Rochfortbridge has successfully passed her City and Guild"s Office Administration course and all her family and friends would like to wish her a big 'Well Done'.
