Moate Golf Club
Club Captain, Dermot Kenny, set the course up spectacularly for his qualifying competition last weekend. The greens were at their fastest ever, the rough and fairways were well presented and the flag positions needed some thought. This combination meant that low scoring was at a premium. Despite this, Vice captain, Frank Kiernan produced a great round of 66 to lead the qualifiers into next weekend. However, there are quite a few sub 70 rounds and anyone under par will fancy their chances in the final next Sunday. All players on 76 qualified, with three 77s also getting through. The first tee-off time is 8am next Sunday, with the playoff due for around 5pm. The full draw will be available on the Web Site on Monday evening.Ladies ClubThe results of the Wednesday competition were: 1st Mary Allen (35) - 37pts, 2nd Geraldine Coughlan (18) - 37pts and 3rd Pearse Corbett (17) - 35pts.Challenge CupDespite playing some great golf the Challenge Cup team were beaten by a strong Birr side on Saturday last, June 20.
