Moo for the morning

HSE dieticians are spreading the word on findings from a study into the health benefits of low fat milk which has just been completed by Australian scientists.'Results from the study showed that those who drank fat-free milk in the mornings felt fuller for longer,' said By Cara Cunningham who is the Senior Community Dietitian in Mullingar.'They showed that people drinking the milk took 50 fewer calories at lunch; this may not seem like much but would all other thing being equal it would lead to a weigh gain of 2lb each year.'Researcher suggest that the protein and lactose (natural sugar in milk) or maybe just the thickness of the milk may be the reason that milk is more satisfying leading to us feeling fuller for longer. Keeping hunger at bay is definitely the way to go if you are trying to watch your weight.Milk also a great source of calcium, which is vital for your bones. For a balanced diet it is recommended that you have 3 serving of dairy products each day. If you don"t want to get the fat go for the low fat varieties.'Most of the population in Ireland are gaining weight slowly and steadily so anything that can combat that is to be recommended,' said Cara.
