Aoife Carton is All-Ireland Junior Ladies Champion

A fantastic final round of 2 under par saw Kilbeggan"s Aoife Carton take the Ladies All-Ireland Junior Trophy home on Saturday last July 11. What an achievement for a young lady who has just joined the adult ranks of Pitch and Putt! After a shaky start, Aoife pulled out all the stops to play the last 50 holes in 2 under par.Anyone who knows the Glenville course will know that it is a very tough track but Aoife made light work of the play-off round to win.Ahead by four shots going into the play-off, Aoife pitched superbly to win by an amazing 14 shots.Aoife"s parents, John and Kathleen, were very proud of their daughter as she accepted the Trophy as All-Ireland Junior Ladies Champion for 2009.This is a very proud moment for all the members of the Kilbeggan Club who already boast several All-Ireland Champions. As the rain swept through the Midlands on Saturday evening last, the word had spread that Aoife was on her way home with the Trophy and she was greeted by several members of the Club. She was cheered on her way through Kilbeggan and the reception she received showed the appreciation for what Aoife has done for the club. Some people will have wondered what all the commotion was about but by now they will all have heard that Aoife Carton is the new Ladies Junoir Champion for 2009.So Aoife, from all the members of the Club, both past and present, may we say well done on your fantastic achievement and maybe next year you will bring home the Intermediate Trophy! Now, let us not forget our Intermediate players Kathleen Carton and Noleen Coffey who also performed very well on Saturday. Although they did not reach the winners enclosure, both players put up a great display and Noleen Coffey only missed the play-off round by one shot! Both Noleen and Kathleen were unlucky not to be closer to the leaders; a few unlucky putts here and there made the difference. Nevertheless, they should be proud of themselves for making the finals and playing so well.OutingOn Saturday, July 18, the Club are having an outing to Royston, Newbridge.
