The late Cyril Convery

The death has occurred in London, on June 23rd, of Cyril Convery, Rathconnell, who was better known as Larry to his friends and family. Larry was raised in Belfast and lived in Newbridge, Kildare and London.His early life and love was the world of entertainment and when he travelled to London as a young man he was swept up in this world, finding work as a model and an actor. Larry"s acting career gave him the opportunity to tour the world and he had roles in 'The Quiet Man', Captain Lightfoot and Moby Dick.Towards the end of his life. Larry returned to the world of entertainment, when he took up a post with the BBC Concert Orchestra, a position he held until his retirement three years ago. During his lifetime Larry also worked with an optical firm, The Samaritans and in career Guidance. Larry returned often to Mullingar and his brother Brendan described him as a second father to his own children.Larry had struggled bravely against cancer for the last eight years and in the final six months of his life the illness overwhelmed him. He passed away with his family gathered around him and his death is deeply mourned by his brother Brendan, sister-in-law Marilyn, his nephew Aidan, nieces Siobhan and Lisa, relatives and friends.Larry"s body was cremated in London and his ashes returned to Mullingar. The funeral mass was said by Fr McMahon at 12 o"clock on July 5th, at St Paul"s Church, Mullingar and burial took place afterwards at Ballyglass Cemetery.
