Kinnegad business to sponsor new cycling club in Clonard

A well-known Kinnegad business is one of the main sponsors behind a new cycling club based in the south Meath village of Clonard, which is due to have its official launch on Thursday, August 27.Clonard Road Club, the new beating heart of cycling along the old N4, will be sponsored mainly by Murray Car Hire of Dublin Airport fame; but it will also receive sponsorship from Coyne's Cycles of Kinnegad, as it hopes to recruit supporters from the Westmeath side of Kinnegad parish.Other sponsors include Paddy Ronan and Son Engineers, Network Massage (Maynooth), Ken Maye Wood Designs (Kildare). While Clonard Road Club draws much of its support from Enfield, Johnstownbridge, Clonard and other areas of south Meath, the club has already received substantial support from cycling enthusiasts in Kinnegad and Coralstown.Club spokesperson Marie Boyd said that the club is actively seeking support from cyclists in this area of Westmeath, as it seeks to accommodate wheelers living along this stretch of the old N4."The nearest cycling clubs to people living in this area are Lakeside Wheelers in Mullingar on one side, and the cycling club in Lucan on the other," Marie told the Westmeath Examiner. The club was officially formed on Friday last, attracting an initial roster of 35 members, including a number of beginners, and a few people from Kinnegad.Marie said that starting on Monday, August 10, and on each Monday after that, the club will launch an cycling initiative on the old N4 in a bid to get kids from the club's large catchment area involved in the sport."Through that and other initiatives, we hope to get as many members as we can," Marie added. The club will officially launch itself at that famous stop on the N4, Mother Hubbard's on August 27 at 6.30pm, and cycling enthusiasts young and old from all sides of Kinnegad parish - be it Kinnegad, Coralstown or Clonard - are welcome to attend.Parish Golf ClassicFriday, September 11 is a date for all keen golfers in Kinnegad Parish to note, with the Kinnegad Parish Golf Classic due to take place at the Co.
