With the mix up over English papers now a distant memory, Leaving Cert students at Loreto College, Mullingar gathered at the school last Wednesday morning to obtain their results. One student however was more than happy with her results, as Brosna Bergin from Brookfield in Mullingar received top points of 600.Having just opened her results, Brosna told the Westmeath Examiner how she was "over the moon" with her marks:"It was a lot of hard work, but I'm delighted. I've always wanted to do Veterinary, so I'm going to that in UCD," said Brosna, who had just phoned her parents, Claire O'Brien Moran and Padraig Bergin, to inform them that she achieved six A1's and one A2 in the examination."They're delighted, I just gave them a ring there and they are over the moon," she said.Claire who is eldest of six, said she has always been interested in becoming a vet:"I did work experience in the Auburn Veterinary Clinic during Transition Year and I absolutely loved it. I'm hoping to do a couple of weeks in the ISPCA before I go college as well, so I'm looking forward to it," she said. Also speaking on the morning of the Leaving Cert results, Principal of Loreto College, Angela McGarvey said all the students achieved and surpassed their ability:"We were really delighted with both the Leaving Cert and the Leaving Cert Applied results. All of the students did very well according to their ability and more than their ability, and a significant number got marks in the high five hundreds," said Angela McGarvey."At the moment we have just one student who achieved the 600 marks, but that may change in the coming weeks when the students view their scripts and appeal," she said."The Leaving Cert year involves a lot of work from the students, and of course from the teaching staff, but also a lot of work and support from the student's families. All of that has to be taken into account when you see the results, so we're all really delighted at how everyone did."Loreto students Jackie Cole and Sinead McGrath told the Westmeath Examiner how thrilled they both were with their results, with Jackie hoping to do Arts in Maynooth, and Sinead going on to so Social Care in Athlone IT.Jenal Mehta, originally from Bombay but living Kinnegad, said she was hoping to do a Business course in DIT:"I'm hoping to do a business course and right now I think I got into DIT, so I'm delighted," she commented.Another student at Loreto College - Tara Dixon from Ballymun, Dublin is hoping to do Economics, Politics and Law in DCU, while her classmate Isabella DeLuca from Mullingar is going on to do Law and Arts in Maynooth, but is hoping to take a year out first and maybe go travelling.Deborah Stenson from Belvedere Hills and Cliona Potter from Collinstown said they were both very happy with their scores: "We're very happy, and really surprised.I'm going to wait until I get my CAO offer now on Monday, but I'm hoping to Arts in UCD," said Deborah, while Cliona said: "I got 550 points so I'm hoping to do Law in Maynooth."
