Ray Lynam records another number one

Next weekend another Golfer of the Year competition takes place.The Teacher's Prize takes place and the good news is that the weather is promised better this week. Currently Frank Kiernan leads the way in the Golfer of the Year with 18 pts, while Thomas McDonagh is second with 15 pts, with another group three points further back on 12 pts, which includes PJ Higgins and Ray Lynam. With three competitions still remaining anything can still happen in this competition.In the matchplay competitions Bert Burke/Veronica Colgan sealed victory with a win over Tommy Conlon/Sinead Healy to take the inaugural mixed foursomes title at the club. The scratch matchplay is down to the last eight, while the Club matchplay is at the semi-final stages, Louis Cunningham v. Damien Milton and Paul Fogarty v. Phil Behan. The Club fourball is continuing and Dermot Kenny (Captain) and the committee are to be complimented on the range of activities available and the efficiency of their organisation this year. Almost 100 teams made up of members, sponsors and guests, enjoyed splendid golfing conditions and the renowned Moate hospitality, while supporting the club's ongoing development plans. The winner team this year comprising W. Grennan, B. McKnight, L. Henry and N. Murray produced 101 points, a full seven points clear of the field. Next up was J. O'Rourke, C. Guilfoyle, G. Bollard and F. Carton, while third place went to P. Fogarty, V. Shelley, B. McGee and A. McGee.Other winners - 4th: B. Browne, K. Duffy, P. Harrison, D. Martin, 5th: J. Burke, D. Sheedy, J. Once again a big thank you to everyone involved in this annual event, especially the hard working committee, led by Vice-Captain, Frank Kiernan who left no stone unturned to make it a success.Junior GolfThe Friday evening junior golfers were treated to some fun golf and refreshments on Sunday, September 6. There was a great turnout of budding golfers for the occasion and an enjoyable time was had by all. All the participants received prizes. Thanks must be extended to Patricia Burke and Liam Galvin and their helpers who coached the juniors voluntarily every Friday evening and who arranged the golf on Sunday. Thanks also to the parents who came on Sunday and to the sponsors.Ladies ClubThe Ladies Club are holding an OPEN FRIDAY for ladies and gents on Friday, September 25. Time sheet available. The Winter League starts on October 10and will run until February 28. Names of those wishing to play may be put on the sheet in the ladies changing room.
