A 'golden' night for O'Growney Drive man

Saturday night was certainly "golden" for one Mullingar man - for an appearance on the RTE lottery show "Winning Streak" saw him come home €32,500 the richer.George Golden, originally Kilmaine in Mayo, but who has been living in Mullingar since 1958, was sitting at home in O'Growney Drive, when his name was pulled out of the drum a week earlier, and he was, he says "totally freaked out"."I'd just said to my wife that my name was going to be the first one out - and then it was!"It was an unbelieveably marvellous feeling."The father of 11, who has twenty grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, is hoping to spend some of the money on a trip with his wife Bernie to the USA. He would love to revisit Washington DC.The couple married ten years ago, nine years after the death of George's first wife.A retired sawyer, George still enjoys doing carpentry jobs for his family - and has a keen interest in horse racing. He bought his ticket at Buckley's SuperValu in Austin Friars Street.
