An Post delievers a very special Rose to Loughnavalley

Pupils at St. Baoithín NS in Loughnavalley received a very special delivery in the form of Rose of Tralee 2009, Charmaine Kenny. She arrived via the post, which was delivered by Rose Escort and local postman Gordon Ward.Charmaine, who took the Rose crown in August and is originally from Kildare, has seven cousins attending the school, who said they were all very proud of Charmaine.Charmaine chatted to the pupils about how exciting it was to win the Rose competition and about getting to meet Ray Darcy, but also said it was nerve wrecking having one million people tuning in from all over the world to watch the competition.Charmaine went on to talk of her plans for the year ahead in her new role of official Rose of Tralee, which includes a lot of travelling around the world as an ambassador for the competition, with charity work for two Rose affiliated charities including the Chernobyl Children's Project and Voluntary Services Overseas. She talked of visiting some very important people, which included the President of Ireland. The children then had to guess who the President was, at which stage one child shouted out Barack Obama, another corrected Brian Cowen, but third time lucky, a girl guessed Mary McAleese!
