Woman dies after crashed car engulfed in flames

An elderly woman died following a crash near Dalystown on the Tyrrellspass Road on Thursday morning, after her car was engulfed in flames.The two vehicle collision happened shortly after 11am on Thursday morning, November 5. Susan Griffith, aged 76, died at the scene and a twenty-three year old man, Patrick Rattigan from Mullingar town, who was travelling in the oncoming car was brought to the Midland Regional Hospital, where he was treated for what were described as "serious" injuries.Susan Griffith, nee Bailey, from The Glebe, Tyrrellspass, and Banagher, County Offaly originally, was removed to St. Sinion's Church of Ireland in Tyrrellspass on Sunday. The funeral service took place on Monday followed by burial to the adjoining churchyard. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have been travelling between Mullingar and Tyrrellspass around the time of the crash to contact Mullingar Garda station on 044 9384000.
