New Mullingar Discount Card launched

Just in time for Christmas, twenty-year-old Conor Cochrane is launching a new discount card that will change the face of shopping as we know it in Mullingar.The Mullingar Discount Card will be available from Saturday, December 5, and will allow cardholders to between ten and twenty percent off purchases from over 50 businesses around the town for six months, until June 2010.The discount card which costs just €10, comes with a reference booklet containing all the shops the discount card can be used in, from fashion shops to coffee shops, hairdressers to pharmacies and even night clubs, the card can be used in businesses right across Mullingar."The whole idea of the card is that people shop local," Conor Cochrane told the Westmeath Examiner this week."For six months you continually get this discount and by having the card the whole town becomes from ten to twenty percent cheaper to shop in," he added.Son of John Cochrane, Manager of the Greville Arms Hotel, Conor is currently in the third year of a Business and Management course in DIT.John, who attended St. Mary's CBS, is more well known as the dynamic corner forward who plays for St. Loman's GAA, and has contributed in no small part to the Club's underage success in recent times.Now in his first major entrepreneurial venture, Conor is certain the Mullingar Discount Card is going to be an instant success:"During these tough times it's important for local people to support local businesses, but it's just as equally important for local businesses to support their own and that's exactly what the card is all about," said ConorMullingar Discount Card is a plastic card - the same size as a credit card, and is available from the Harbour Place Shopping Centre, and selected newsagents around the town from December 5 onwards.
