The late Mary Keenan

It was with great sadness that family and friends learned of the passing of Mary Keenan, nee Moran, on December 9, 2009.Mary who grew up in Carne, Castletown-Geoghegan, died peacefully at her home aged 79 years.Married to Christy for sixty years, Mary was mother to eight children, and was known as a great family woman.She had a love of the outdoors, living on a farm all her life, when her father Michael passed away when she was just nine years old, and as the only child she worked the farm with her mother Mary.It was said that Mary really did have green fingers, as with her love of flowers, she could make anything grow, and as well as tending the garden, she was a great lover of animals, with her dog Spot her loyal companion right up to the end.Mary was also a very religious woman and travelled to Lourdes. She was heavily involved with the Irish Countrywomen's Association and the Friendship Club, as well as with the Streamstown Day Care Centre and St. Mary's Day Care Centre.Mary really started to live life to the full as much as possible in the past twelve years and enjoyed her travels, holidaying every year in Mornington with the Friendship Club.Mary was waked at her home in Carne and removed to St. Michael's Church in Castletown Geoghegan. Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Giles and Fr. O'Connor, followed by burial to the adjoining cemetery on December 12, 2009.She will be greatly missed by her husband Christy, and her loving family Marie, Pauline, Michael, Christy, Kevin, Martin, Jacinta and Colette, her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, relatives, neighbours and friends.
