New principal takes the helm at Mullingar school

Mullingar Community College has recently experienced a significant change in personnel. Several of the most senior staff retired and this culminated with the retirement of Mrs. Ann Hanley, the principal, at the end of November. The new appointment to the position is Christopher Rowley, who took up his duties on December 17th. He is only the fifth principal in the seventy six year history of the school and is extremely proud and honoured to have been appointed.Mr. Rowley previously worked in St. Aidan's Comprehensive, Cootehill teaching woodwork, construction studies and graphics. In recent years he worked for both the State Exams Commission and T4, a branch of the second level support service. In October Mr. Tony Barry was appointed Deputy Principal. Mr. Barry has a long and successful record in educational administration. Previously he was head of the Senior Education Centre in Mullingar. Both are looking forward to building on the good work of their predecessors. They will be working with all the school partners, in particular parents, to fulfill the school's mission statement. Mullingar Community College is a truly community resource providing education for the teenager to the pensioner. It has a wide range of programmes satisfying the needs of a broad range of students. The school has also appointed a new Home School Liaison Officer. Ms. Angela Bowe will provide a vital link between the school and parents with a view to supporting students in school. To add to all the excitement the school is hosting its Open Evening from 7-9pm on Tuesday 26th January. The new management and staff would like that people with prospective students would take the time to see the excellent work being done in the school and the many opportunities it offers.
