The late Margaret Melia, Multyfarnham

On Monday, March 15, one of Multyfarnham's most popular citizens passed to her eternal reward.Mrs. Margaret (Madge) Melia (née Ledwith) died peacefully at her home following a long illness, at the age of 81.A native of Multyfarnham, Margaret attended national school in Ballinafid before working at the kitchen of Wilson's Hospital, Multyfarnham; she then worked at Keogh's pub (now Murtagh's) for many years.Margaret garnered a reputation in Multyfarnham, and indeed in north Westmeath and beyond, as a terrific Aran knitter, and she liked nothing better than to spend her hours knitting Aran jumpers, cardigans and the like. She also enjoyed Irish traditional music, watching television and listening to the radio.Margaret was predeceased by her husband James in 1969. She is survived by her sons James and Martin, her sister Annie Fagan (Coole), brother Luke Ledwith (Multyfarnham), sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.She was removed from Gilsenan's Funeral Home, Mullingar to St. Nicholas's Church, Multyfarnham on Wednesday, March 17. Requiem Mass for the repose of Margaret's soul was celebrated on the following morning by Fr. Gerry Boyle (PP, Multyfarnham), along with Frs. Joe Walsh OFM, John Kealy OFM, Richard Kelly OFM, Br. Salvador Kenny OFM (all from the Franciscan Friary, Multyfarnham) and Fr. Oliver Skelly (PP, Coole).Fr. Boyle officiated when Margaret was laid to rest at the Rock Cemetery, Multyfarnham.
