Jealous Wall Duathlon The Weekend

Sunday sees the running of our first event of the year, the Jealous Wall Duathlon. The race caters for 170 athletes and comprises a 5km run, a 20km cycle and a final 2.5km run. Held in the grounds of Belvedere House & Gardens the race starts at 10.00am but spectators are urged to arrive early as the approach road to Belvedere will be closed to traffic while athletes are completing the cycle leg.Last year monies raised from Jealous wall duathlon was given to the Friends of Mullingar Hospital. The group are currently trying to raise eur250,000 to upgrade their CT scanner so that they are able to perform more advanced cardiac screening. As the Jealous wall has been nicknamed 'The Heart Breaker' it seemed appropriate to donate to this charity. Dr John Cosgrave, a Medical Consultant in MRH Mullingar with a special interest in Cardiology, accepted the donation from event organiser Noleen Bourke.Race ResultsMary Daly followed up her second place finish two weeks ago in Naas with a third place finish on Good Friday in the final race of the Naas Duathlon Series. This is a great start to the season for Mary and bodes well for the upcoming championships and national series.Super Sprint SeriesOn Easter Monday we held the second of our Super Spring races for 2010. The race again took the from of a Duathlon consisting of a 2km run, a 16km cycle and finishing with another 2km run. About 35 club members took part and taking the honours on the day were Paul Connolly and Breda Daly. The event was a good warm up for this weekend's Jealous Wall Duathlon and best of luck to all those taking part on Sunday.More information about the club, training sessions and up coming events can be found on our website, midlandtri.com.
