Legan man (28) drove at three times the legal limit

A Longford native who was caught drink driving in Mullingar town earlier this year had over three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system, Gardaí said at a recent sitting of Mullingar District Court.Inspector Jarlath Folan told the court that Gary Tague (28), with an address at No. 5 Legan, Longford, was seen driving erratically on Dominick Street, Mullingar at 3.25am on January 30 of this year.He was stopped and questioned, and Gardaí formed an opinion that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was conveyed to Mullingar Garda Station, where he failed an evidential breath test, which had a reading of 106 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath - over three times the legal limit of 35mcg per 100ml.Mr. Tague, who was represented by solicitor Louis Kiernan, entered a guilty plea.Mr. Kiernan explained that his client is a machine operator who works a three day week in Longford. He said that at the time of the incident, Mr. Tague had just gone through a relationship break-up, and "wasn't himself".Noting the high reading recorded after the breath sample, Judge John Neilan fined Mr. Tague €750, and disqualified him from holding a driving licence for three years. The judge fixed recognisance in the event of an appeal, on Mr. Tague's own surety of €150.
