Colourful and exciting County Finals

Westmeath Community Games -- The odd shower of rain that fell on Sunday last at the Westmeath Community Games County Finals couldn't dampen the enthusiasm or the spirits of the hundreds of athletes and officials who made the finals a huge success.Adding to this very colourful occasion, as always, were the Mullingar Town Band, under Director Hubert Magee who lead out the parade of athletes, parents and supporters from the Fair Green to the Harriers Grounds. The success of the county finals must go down to the very efficient officials from the Mullingar Harriers Club, to the large number of volunteers who helped to assemble, the recorders, the gate collectors, the Order of Malta and the ladies who provided a very welcome cup of tea.We must also pay tribute to Pearly and the FAS workers who had the venue in pristine condition. All in all, it was a wonderful display of volunteerism on behalf of the children of the county and we extend a big thank you, to one and all.We would like to congratulate all the children who turned out on Sunday for the Athletic County Finals and wish the county winners continued success when they compete at the National Finals at the A.I.T. in Athlone on the weekend of 20th/22nd August. The results of Sunday is as follows with the results of the Field Events to be published next week.Leinster line-upThe following Westmeath teams are in action this week when they take on either Laois or Offaly and we wish them all the very best of luck and hope they go all the way to the National Finals.Basketball Under-11 Mixed - Beechpark/Coosan.
