The late Denis Gaffney

Mr. Gaffney was a quiet man, but he had a great love for Irish music, and enjoyed a sing song, and among friends, could occasionally be persuaded to sing a song himself. His main interest in life was his family, and he was an excellent father, to his only son, Sean, and grandfather to Sean’s children, whom as youngsters, he spent a lot of time with, taking them fishing, and generally amusing them.He took a keen interest in current affairs, and loved t.v. drama as well.Mr. Gaffney was in fairly good health until April, but unfortunately, as illness took hold, he spent a month in hospital in Cavan, and then a period in hospital in Mullingar where he died. His removal took place from his son Sean’s residence to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Coole, where the remains were greeted by Fr. Oliver Skelly. It was also Fr. Skelly who officiated at the funeral Mass.Mr. Gaffney is survived by Sean and Sean’s wife Kathleen; by his grandchildren, Niall, Siobhan, Laura and Denise, all of Coole, and Antoinette O’Neill, of Collinstown. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Amy, Paul, Ian, Stephen and Jason.
