Mullingar to go 'Off The Rails' at Electric Picnic

Mullingar’s Rail Theatre Company is to once again feature at this year’s Electric Picnic festival in the beautiful grounds of the Stradbally Estate, County Laois. In two weeks’ time, the group will stage two plays in the theatre tent, namely ‘Shakers’ and ‘Bouncers’ - both penned by John Godber. There is a third dimension to the line-up this year however with the addition of ‘Glamedy’ - a show which mixes glamour and comedy at its finest.Glamedy features Mullingar’s favourite “dames”, the comedy duo of John ‘Banjo’ Quinn and Paul Doolin, who will be backed up by five stunning ladies including Niamh O’Shea, Laura Swarbrigg, Jan Lindsey, Andrea Carolan and Kim Darby, performing the best cabaret numbers.Shakers is an award-winning play featuring Siobhan Murphy, Olga Aughey, Niamh O’Shea and Jemma McNamee as Adele, Carol, Nicki and Mel - four waitresses who work in an upmarket cocktail bar in present day Dublin.A hilariously funny and fast-paced piece, Shakers takes a look at the lives of the four waitresses and their aspirations, behind the glitz and the glamour of the cocktail bar.Poignant in parts, Shakers is a challenging play requiring the four actors to become a multitude of other characters entering the bar, from posers to businessmen, as well as girls on a 21st birthday party.Bouncers has been described as an “international cult hit” set outside the doors of a dodgy Dublin disco with its bouncers who are both outrageous and hilarious.Again this play features a range of characters including a smooth talking dj, giggly girls, lads on the make all played by the four main characters of Eric (John Quinn), Les (Gary Nolan) Ralph (Aidan Ennis) and Judd (Neil Brady).Once again Rail Theatre Company has aimed high with its complement of three shows in this year’s festival line-up, so make sure not to miss out on what is sure to be entertainment at its best.Shakers -Electric Picnic Theatre Tent - Friday, September 3, 10pmBouncers - Electric Picnic Theatre Tent - Saturday, September 4, 5pmGlamedy -Electric Picnic Theatre Tent - Saturday, September 4, 10pm.
