Killucan Mass webcasts drawing plenty of eyes

The Order of St. Camillus chapel at Killucan is one of several Irish Catholic house of worship which, on a daily basis, broadcasts Mass and other services to the world on a website run by an Irish charity.A camera mounted to the back of the chapel allows visitors to ChurchServices.tv a 24-hour view of the altar, and a chance to catch daily Mass at 10.30am, as well as other activities. ChurchServices.tv is run by Church Support Ltd., and independent charity in Ireland dedicated to bringing “the good news of Jesus Christ to the world using modern technology”.The website offers live streaming to cathedrals and churches around the country, and puts religious-related DVDs and video documentaries, reports and interviews online. The charity strives to maintain a free service for web browsers, and appreciates voluntary financial assistance from contributors. The chapel at Killucan is one of thirteen venues streamed live to an Internet audience every day.Fr. Frank Monks MI, the former head of the Order of St. Camillus who is based at Killucan, said that the service enables people living abroad who like to keep in touch with either Killucan or the Camillians a chance to catch Mass every day via “webcast”.“We have the camera mounted over the back door, and it takes in the sanctuary and the front three rows, so whoever tunes in can see most of what’s going on,” he said.Fr. Monks added that the facility drew a lot of attention online during the brief sojourn of the Heart of St. Camillus in Killucan last month, while relatives of members of the order and indeed Killucan ex-pats logged on in their droves to watch Christmas Masses at the end of last year.Online coverage of activities at the St. Camillus Nursing Centre Chapel may be viewed at www.churchservices.tv/live/Killucan, and it may also be found at www.orderofstcamillus.ie.
