Behind the wheel for a Neurosurgery Appeal

Well known Granard based Guard David Feely is back behind the wheel of his self built 4x4 to raise money for Temple Street Children’s Hospital Neurosurgery Appeal.David has long established links with Mullingar. his father was Cllr Joe Feely and his cousin is well known local businessman Des Walsh. The route for the “2010 4x4 Challenge for Charity” is a closely kept secret and is only revealed to competitors as they navigate their way around the country from the starting point, which this year is Clare’s Aillwee Caves. The event is a 48-hour driving and navigational event with some off road sections. Teams work from Ordnance Survey Discovery Series maps and a road book, which is devised for them by event organisers, ACT Training. They navigate their way around some 800 kms of countryside, finding hidden clues and completing the set tasks in a “treasure hunt” style challenge.“The emphasis is on driving and navigational skill and respect for the environment is important to us,” said David Feely.“The 4x4 Challenge for Charity is not a race. It’s about raising money to improve treatment and services for children who are experiencing life-threatening illnesses. We want to support Temple Street and we hope that local people will help us in doing so.”David has organised a night of traditional music for Saturday 25th in John V. Donohoe’s Bar in Granard. All money raised goes directly to Temple Street.Last year, a record field of 32 teams succeeded in raising over €25,000, making a total of almost €130,000 contributed to the Hospital since the first event in 2005.
