Rubberbandits grant Mullingar You Tube fame
by Una D'ArcyIt's the most talked about single this Christmas and the last few words it's millions of fans hear is âI'll take you out to Mullingarâ.Plastic bag-masked, tracksuit-clad and not without some classy dance moves, The Rubberbandits continue their unstoppable rise to the top of the charts with their unforgettable âHorse Outsideâ.The catchy single is being heralded as a triumphant return to the spiritual equine-inspired Irish music loved throughout the world: a tradition which began with Christy Moore's âRide Onâ and was cemented by U2's âWho's gonna ride your Wild Horses?â is now secured for future generations by the Rubberbandits' âHorse Outside.âWe pure feel that popular music has abandoned the horse as a muse. Just wander around the fields of any popular song by Jay Z or the X Factor and you will see nothing but starving, wretched horses malnourished of melody. Horses live on a diet of hay and treble clefs, it's a fact. The horse is the purest vessel for creative expression, even more so than a paintbrush or a pen,â say the Rubberbandits. One trick ponyHailing from lovely Limerick the Rubberbandits were reported to be outselling X-Factor winner Matt Cardle âthree or four to oneâ in Christmas week in Ireland .Massive download sales have also propelled the Limerick duo back to the top of the iTunes chart, with the âBandits hitting the biggest ever weekly sale for any download in Irish chart history last week with 15,000 sales. They also sold 5,000 physical copies of the single in a matter of hours after its release last Friday and have repeatedly sold out restocks of the single when it arrives. By Wednesday of last week the group had hit 3.2 million views on You Tube for the video. That's a lot of people wondering where Mullingar is!
