Community groups at Multy and Milltown receive funding for new community centres

Work is scheduled to begin on Multyfarnham's new community centre within the next two months after the project was recently approved for funding of €315,00 by Westmeath Community Development.The funding is made of up of €150,000 from the LEADER program which was first announced in February and a further €165,000 from the Department of Community, Gaelteacht and Rural Affairs, which was recently approved.Speaking to Westmeath Examiner Enda Finnerity from the Community Centre Committee said that the members are delighted that the funding has finally been secured and work can begin on the construction of the centre."It's all systems go now. We were on tenterhooks for a while waiting for the funding to be confirmed. Everything is in place. We are hoping that construction will start next month."Milltownpass Community Action Group was also celebrating last week after it was announced that the group is to receive €327,494 from Westmeath Community Development under the Rural Development Programme 2007 - 2013. The group applied for funding for the construction of a new community hall which will include meeting rooms, an office, toilets and kitchen.To read more see this week's edition of the Westmeath Examiner.
