Twenty Mullingar people to parachute jump for Childline

Twenty Mullingar people are to take part in a parachute jump in aid of Childline, a branch of the ISPCC (The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) an organisation that fights for children's rights. The parachute jump will take place on Saturday, July 9 in Clonbullogue, County Offaly, where local woman Anne Donlon and 19 friends and family are hoping to raise over €5,000 for Childline, which provides a listening ear to children with various issues.Unfortunately Childline, which has an office in Mullingar, receives no government funding whatsoever, and has to rely on money raised by the public. Anne told the Westmeath Examiner that last year Childline received 830,000 calls, and only 65 percent of those could be answered due to a lack of funds."Many people do not know that there is a local Childline based in Mullingar, I didn't realise that fact until recently myself," Anne told the Westmeath Examiner this week."We've organised a number of fundraising events, including the parachute jump to raise awareness around Childline and the much needed service that it is. We are hoping to raise plenty of money so that more calls from children in trouble can be answered," she explained. The fundraising events include a Pitch and Putt day, table quiz and a children's Pyjamas Breakfast. The next event is a 60's and 70's night which will take place on Friday, June 24 in the Crossbar, Mullingar. Anne is asking people to come along on the night, get dressed up into 60's and 70's rigout, have some fun and donate what they wish on the night. To read more see this week's edition of the Westmeath Examiner.
