Ray Darcy celebrates Ironman's homecoming
Today FM presenter Ray Darcy hosted Midland Triathlon Club's homecoming party for Gerry Duffy, the Deca Ironman winner, in the Greville Arms Hotel on Thursday last week.Dressed in a suit, Ray who was surrounded my Midland Tri Club members, said he was delighted to be in Mullingar to join the celebrations but joked that he would have felt more at home if he had worn his tracksuit!The popular morning show presenter claimed that he was starting a new campaign - to have a statue of Gerry placed in the Market Square - and laughed saying "Move over Joe Dolan"!When Gerry entered the ballroom of the Greville Arms Hotel, which was filled with Midland Tri members, family and friends, he was greeted by over a minute long standing ovation. His brother Tom, and 32 marathon running mate Ken Whitelaw, had put together a short video, which pieced together photos of Gerry's amazing Deca Ironman challenge, as well as sound bites from various radio interviews, and news clips that aired across the nation when he was declared the winner of the phenomenal challenge.(For more see this week's Examiner)
