Choral delights for a Sunday evening

Don't forget the Mullingar Choral Society's Puccini Messa di Gloria and Orff's Carmina Burana concert in the Cathedral Of Christ the King Mullingar, this Sunday, March 4.Among the many attractions this year are the Cathedral Choristers, who sing at 11am Mass every Sunday. There are 19 boys in the choir this year, from all schools in the parish. The Cathedral Choristers are directed by Catherine Whelehan and accompanied by Gerard Lillis.Cor Scoil Mhuire, founded by Br Crummey and Tony Cotter and with members drawn from third to sixth classes, will also perform on Sunday evening. This year the choir is being taught by Catherine Whelehan and accompanied by Danny Murray - both choirs are delighted to have this opportunity to perform with Mullingar Choral Society and Mullingar Town Band.Soprano Ailish Tynan with tenor Peter Kerr and baritone Owen Gilhooly form the soloist line-up for the concert, and the musical director is Fergus O'Carroll (by kind permission of RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra). The assistant musical director is Gavin Maloney, accompanied by Dublin Baroque Players. The concert is sponsored by Mullingar Credit Union and supported by Westmeath County Council.
