Westmeath's fate in their own hands

Hurling supporters are certainly getting good value in Division 1A of the Allianz Hurling League, which is producing some remarkably high scores.Kilkenny 5-16 Dublin 6-12 tops the scoring charts but there have been several other high-scoring games too over the first three rounds. Kilkenny lead the way, having scored a total of 9-54 in three games, followed by Tipperary on 2-66, Cork on 7-48 and Galway on 4-55.DIVISION 1: ONLY TWO POINTS SEPARATE TOP FOURSaturday: Dublin v Tipperary, Croke Park, 5.15.Sunday (2.30): Cork v Kilkenny, Pairc Ui Chaoimh; Galway v Waterford, Pearse StadiumTwo rounds to go and four counties still in strong contention for the three semi-finals places (the 1B winners will get the fourth) while Dublin and Waterford are deep in relegation worries after losing their first three games. After their extraordinary clash with Kilkenny on Sunday where they lost by a point in a game that produced a total score of 11-28, Dublin return to Croke Park on Saturday to take on Tipperary, whom them beat in the corresponding tie last year.Dublin need to win to give themselves any chance of avoiding being involved in a relegation play-off and the same applies to Waterford when they take on Galway in Pearse Stadium. Tipperary and Galway are both on four points so wins would keep well in line for a semi-final slot. Kilkenny (three wins from three outings) will secure a semi-final place if they beat Cork (4pts) in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Cork lost for the first time last Sunday, going down to Galway by four points, but are still very much in the chase for a semi-final place. However, they have a tough finish against Kilkenny and Tipperary.Last Round (Apr 1): Waterford v Dublin; Kilkenny v Galway; Tipperary v Cork.DIVISION 1B: CLARE SET PACE IN RACE FOR PROMOTIONSaturday: Limerick v Offaly, Gaelic Grounds, 7.0.Sunday: Clare v Wexford, Ennis, 2.30; Antrim v Laois, Casement Park, 2.30Three wins from three games have left Clare well primed for a place in the final (the winners will be promoted). If they beat Wexford on Sunday, they will have qualified for the final ahead of the last round where they play Offaly. Limerick and Offaly, who clash in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday night, are Clare's hottest pursuers (both are one four points) with Antrim and Wexford each on two points, followed by Laois who are bottom of the table having lost their three games so far.Laois need to beat to beat Antrim on Sunday to have a slim chance of avoiding a relegation battle.Last Round (Apr 1): Wexford v Laois; Offaly v Clare; Antrim v Limerick.DIVISION 2A: CARLOW ONE WIN AWAY FROM FINAL PLACESaturday: Westmeath v Wicklow, Mullingar, 2.30Sunday: Kerry v Down, Killarney, 12.45; Carlow v Derry, Celtic Park, 12.45.Having won their first three games, Carlow are now within one win of ensuring themselves of a place in the final. Westmeath (4pts) also have their fate in their own hands. If they win their last two games (v Wicklow, Down) they will definitely be in the final.Down (1pt), Kerry and Wicklow (2 pts each) are in relegation trouble.Last Round (Apr 1) Wicklow v Carlow; Down v Westmeath; Derry v Kerry.DIVISION 2B: KILDARE ONE WIN FROM FINALSaturday: London v Mayo, Ruislip, 4.0.Sunday: Kildare v Armagh, Newbridge, 12.45; Meath v Roscommon, Navan, 2.30Kildare, who have full points from three games, will definitely reach the final if they beat Armagh next Sunday.
