Former London marathon winner and Irish Olympian Catherina McKiernan and her children, Patrick (5) and Deirbhile (9), launched the Spar Great Ireland Run by encouraging families with children aged 5-8 and 9-15 to take part in the mini and junior races on 15 April in the Phoenix Park.

Former London marathon winner and Irish Olympian Catherina McKiernan launched the Spar Great Ireland Run by encouraging families with children aged 5-8 and 9-15 to take part in the mini and junior races on April 15 in the Phoenix Park.The Spar Junior and Mini Great Ireland events take place over a specially plotted 2.5km course and parents and children are encouraged to take part and promote the importance of fitness for life.Over 11,000 walkers, joggers and runners of all abilities are expected to tog out for the 10km Spar Great Ireland and those seeking to enter for the main, junior or mini events can do so on www.greatirelandrun.org.The 2012 Run will again feature a County Challenge competition for the Ronnie Delany Perpetual Trophy.Using the power of chip technology the county with the most finishers in a particular time frame are recorded and declared the winner.
