Brian Fagan, as he started his 48 hour fast on Wednesday morning

Brian's looking for volunteers as he fasts for Simon

For the third year in a row, Mullingar charity worker Brian Fagan is to spend two nights "roughing it" on Mullingar's Market Square, to raise funds for Midlands Simon. And he's looking for your help to carry collection boxes in Mullingar tomorrow (Thursday), for a special collection to raise funds for the charity, which tends to and represents homeless people.Brian started his fast this morning (Wednesday), and will continue until Friday morning. His cabin - the modest base of operations for this unique fundraiser - is located right beside one of Mullingar's star attractions: the statue of the late Joe Dolan. The whole point of the exercise is to experience life from the point of view of a homeless person, and for the two nights, Brian will sleep on nothing but a cardboard box on the floor of the hut.During the 48 hours, he will consume nothing but water and hot tea."The level of homelessness in Mullingar, Westmeath and the Midlands as a whole is increasing rapidly, so we need all the support we can get," said Brian, who is regular GOAL volunteer overseas, and runs his own charity shop on Castle Street."I hope people will feel free to stop by for a chat, and to give whatever they can to help the homeless people of the Midlands."If you fancy helping Brian out for his collection on Thursday, or if you want to contribute, call by to the cabin between now and Friday.
