Headaches for motorists ease as Carrickbridge to Clonfad road opens

The N52 Carrickbridge to Clonfad Road has opened today, Friday, cutting miles off the journeys of local motorists who for weeks have had to take significant detours due to the works in the Dalystown area, just a few miles outside MulThe new stretch of road cost €22m to complete, and is part of the upgrading of the strategic N52 secondary route, which runs from Dundalk to Nenagh, and which in Westmeath runs from Delvin to Kilbeggan.The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar has welcomed the National Roads Authority's opening of a €22 million stretch of road on the strategic N52 national secondary route in Westmeath."Although the roads building programme is largely frozen due to the ongoing economic crisis, some work has still been progressing. The N52 Carrickbridge to Clonfad road is one such scheme and will significantly improve a route between the north east and the south west of the countr," he saidWork on the Carrickbridge to Clonfad stretch was completed three months ahead of schedule, the minister revealed.He added that a further roads scheme in Westmeath - the N4 Downs Grade Separation - which is to provide new accesses to Killucan from the N4, will be completed next year. Work on that project is currently ongoing.
