John Cashman of Cooley Distillery, helps Danny and Mark of The Script carry the barrel of Kilbeggan whiskey laid down in their honour on Sunday during their visit to Kilbeggan Distillery.

The Script stop off for 45 minutes - and stay 3 hours!

You couldn't write the script really: a famous rock band asks can they come and visit; they want to stay just 45 minutes - and three hours later, they're still there!

That's what happened for the staff of Kilbeggan Distillery on Sunday, when the hugely popular "The Script" called to do the tour. Says Rachel Quinn, marketing manager at the distillery:

"Mark (Sheehan) from The Script is a very keen Irish whiskey enthusiast and at Dublin airport, he's met a colleague of mine, Tanya, a number of times, and she said he should come and see the distillery."

The call to Tanya came during the week from Mark himself, saying that he had a free day on Sunday, half-way through the band's tour of Ireland, and could he come visit.

"They came for 45 minutes, and stayed for three hours," reveals Rachel, explaining that also there was Danny O'Donoghue, and other members of the entourage, who after leaving Kilbeggan, were on their way to Belfast to perform there.

While at Kilbeggan, they met with the master distiller, Noel Sweeney, and distiller Andrina FitzGerald, and they did the full tour before enjoying lunch at The Pantry restaurant.

To mark their visit, Danny and Mark were presented with a cask of Kilbeggan whiskey, putting them in auspicious company, since a previous famous person who has also had a cask filled for him is US president, Barak Obama.
