Boutique camping in Westmeath set to attract visitors from US

The world’s most widely read travel magazine, National Geographic Traveler, is showcasing the boutique camping available in the village of Castletown Geoghegan and hits news stands in the United States this month.
The prestigious travel publication profiles ‘glamping’ and yurt holidays here to thousands of avid American readers and potential holidaymakers.
The current edition of National Geographic Traveler, which has a circulation of about 8.5 million readers, includes an article titled Ireland’s Green Scene with some great ideas for boutique camping holidays here – including Boutique Camping.
Featuring the 100 acre property in Castletown Geoghegan - the creation of Adrian Murphy -  who transformed the rolling farmland by installing roads and walking trails, planting more than 200,000 trees with clearings for the yurts and shepard huts and carefully placing works of art to encourage discovery.
“A circle of standing stones carved with Celtic symbols tops a two-tiered mound: a group of totem poles overlook the pond; druids and mythical figures emerge from massive tree trunks. Iron beds, wood stoves and the dreamy effect of candles set the night scene,” says National Geographic Traveler
“I’ll never be done adding to the property” says Murphy. “I wouldn’t have any fun then.”
The United States is the island of Ireland’s second most important tourist-generating market. Last year was one of the strongest years ever for visitors from the US to Ireland (after 2007) and 2013 could be the best year ever – when we hope to welcome over one million American visitors, spending over US$1 billion. A critical factor which will underpin this growth is the significant increase – almost 27% – in the number of airline seats between the US and Ireland during the peak summer months this year.
