Children taking part in today's Mad Hair Day at Gaelscoil an Mhuilinn in Mullingar.

Going green at the Gaelscoil

Things were more than a little hectic at Gaelscoil an Mhuilinn this morning Friday - and not just because it represents the start of a long weekend.

What really caused the excitement was the fact that the children were encouraged to dress up in green - in honour of St Patrick - and to come in with their hair messed up for a "Mad Hair Day".

They didn't have to be asked twice - and the array of sprayed hair, glittery green glasses, leprechaun hats, and green outfits meant it was definitely one of the most colourful days in the school so far this year.

In honour of the occasion, there was a break from lessons to allow Irish dancing and party games in the school's assembly hall.
