Mullingar quintet set off for European Duathlon Championships

Mullingar will be heavily represented at the European Short and Long Distance Duathlon Championships this Sunday. The events which are are being staged in Horst in Holland will see five well-known local athletes competing in the green vest of Ireland.
The five are Mullingar based vet, David Fagan, who also competed in the same event last year and fellow competitors, Stephen Naughton, Mickey ‘Dan’ Murtagh, electrician, James Cribben and Mark McCann, who are all making their debut in the Irish singlet.
Mark, the youngest of the group, is tackling the short distance in Horst, which comprises a 10k run, followed by a 20k cycle and is completed by a 5k run. The four senior members of the party have been selected for the longer distance over 15k on the road, then a 60k cycle and rounded off by 7.5k sprint to the finish!
The group were in buoyant mood as they left Mullingar this (Friday) morning in advance of a 9.40am start on Sunday and the soon to be Famous Five, are expected back in Mullingar late on Sunday night.
