Mullingar shuffle sees John Joe win bronze and heading for gold in Minsk

John Joe Nevin is tipped for gold this Friday, after today defeating Hungarian opponent Krisztian Nagy 30-24, 30-27, 30-25 at the European Men's Boxing Championships 2013 in Minsk, in Belarus.

Through his victory over Nagy, the young Mullingar man is guaranteed a bronze at least, but is considered favourite for the gold this Friday, when he meets Russian boxer, Vladimir Nikitin.

Nevin has now made history, becoming the only Irish male male athlete to win all three major medals - a longstanding ambition of his.
As he wrote himself to fans in the wake of today's vicotry: "Olympics, worlds and now Europeans medal."

He thanked fans for their support, saying it meant a lot.
