Multyfarnham Parish Field Day

After 33 years as a popular day out, the 2013 Multyfarnham Parish Field Day is this Sunday June 16.

The organising committee are hard building on the success and lessons of the previous events to ensure that this year’s field day has great appeal and added entertainment to make it the best day out in the midlands.

Once again by kind permission of the Bourke family, the field day is at The Covert, Ballinafid from 2.30pm, starting with a Children’s Fancy Dress competition.

After an absence of a few years the traditional Irish cottage was a centrepiece of the site last year, and it returns, along with a vintage display, plus a tug-o-war.
There will be a bowling alley and live music is by the Whiskey River Band.

The search for a man with a variety of skills and talents will end in the crowning of the Multy Task Man.

There will be darts and rings competitions, or try your luck at knocking Aunt Sally’s head off. Scoring the most goals at the penalty competition is a serious task and among the other attractions are the book stall and a bric-a-brac stall.

Sheaf tossing, weight throwing, horseshoe pitching, sink the black and wet sponge, baseball throwing, target golf, basketball shooting and clothes peg hanging will test the skills of all.

The dog show has 10 classes, including one for children’s pets, and a new category for the finest dog in the parish.

At each of the previous events, one of the most popular attractions was the mice racing and this year it should provide a great evening of fun and laughter. The mice have wintered well, looked good in the gallops and if the handicapper has done his work well, some close racing is assured.

Another great attraction will be the Bonny Baby Competition and for older kids the bouncing castles will be fun – this year the organisers are providing a giant one and a smaller one for tiny tots (each driven by its own motor).
A bottle stall, cake stall, fruit and produce stall and a shop will cater for anything you would like to buy, and with tea and sandwiches, pastries and cakes, a perfect day out is on offer to all – while contributing to parish funds.

Admission is free to children. Parking is free and admission for adult is €5 or €10 per car.

For a great day out, go to Multyfarnham field day on Sunday June 16.
