We joined 1D on the red carpet

The Westmeath Examiner was at the heart of the world last week – we attended the international premiere of the movie, One Direction This Is Us!

We Tweeted and Facebooked live from the red carpet in Leicester Square in London all day, took in the atmosphere, chatted to fans, and invited guests of the biggest boyband in the universe! Most importantly though, we caught up with our favourite Mullingar boy, Niall Horan, and bandmates Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. And you can read about it all in tomorrow’s edition.

The world premiere is the first look at director Morgan Spurlock’s captivating and intimate all-access examination of life on the road for the global music phenomenon. Weaved with stunning live concert footage, this fascinating feature film tells the remarkable story of a meteoric rise to fame, from humble hometown beginnings and competing on the X-Factor, to conquering the world and performing at London’s famed O2 arena.

It’s a “Hear it from the boys themselves and see through their own eyes what it’s really like to be One Direction”, film, according to Sony Pictures, and is due to go on international release on August 29.

The 1D guys said they “can’t wait” for the movie to be released. Niall tweeted, “Can’t believe it’s #TwoyearsOfWhat- MakesyouBeautiful and this week we premiere our movie This Is Us thank you!” However, they are not leaving behind their music for Hollywood just yet, according to Zayn Malik, who confirmed the band are not thinking about pursuing an acting career despite the release of their first feature film.

At home in Mullingar there were rumours that Niall has designs on his favourite Mullingar pub, Danny Byrne’s. Reportedly he wants to invest in the nightspot where he plans to hold his 20th birthday party next month. We heard he’s interested in transforming it into a rock ‘n’ roll pub, but the current owners haven’t confirmed that. Fans were Up all Night waiting ready to meet, greet and dance to The Best Song Ever with the five popstars... and we’re looking forward to publishing how we done the same!

Tomorrow's edition also features a special collectors item supplement including a Niall Horan timeline from when he graced our TV screens at the X-Factor auditions right up to the premiere of their movie. Click here for more info.
