New video explains the mystery behind PR

The Irish Academy of public relations has launched a new video which explains what public relations is all about.

Part of a new education video series, the PR video is one of nine the academy is uploading this autumn: see http://youtu.be/cie_NWrojds.

Jose Penso, one of the academy’s Florida-based tutors, originally suggested one video. Because of the range of courses that the academy offers, this eventually became a series of nine videos, of which PR is the first.

The video defines public relations and explains how it is used by corporate bodies, governments and charities.

“There is so much confusion about PR that we felt we should try to being some clarity,” said Ellen Gunning, director of the Irish Academy of Public Relations.

Ellen has been involved in public relations, journalism and event management since the early 1980s and has been overseeing the work of the academy since 1992.

The Irish Academy of Public Relations provides online courses in PR, marketing, journalism, event management and grammar.

PR is a global business, says Ellen: “We have graduates in 27 countries and tutors in 11 countries around the world who practise PR. The economic, political and social environments are different in each country, but the core principles are the same the world over.”

The next courses in PR, marketing, journalism, event management and grammar begin, online on September 19. The academy’s public relations course is taught in five languages - English, French, Spanish, Russian and Polish; details at www.irishacademy.com.

The Academy has offices in New York, London and Dublin.
