Award winning play Kennedy's Children in the Arts Centre this Friday night!

To mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F Kennedy on November 22, 1963, Belfast’s Centre Stage Theatre Company present Robert Patrick’s award winning Kennedy’s Children this Friday night in the Mullingar Art Centre!

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States, was one of the most charismatic figures of the 20th century.

His vision and energy inspired the American people to put a man on the moon, to improve the world with the Peace Corps, and to fight the injustices of racial prejudice.

On one November day in 1963 an assassin’s bullet shattered the dreams and aspirations of a nation.

Premiered at Clark Center, New York City, Kennedy’s Children received its London Premiere at The Kings Head, Islington in 1974. An immediate hit, it transferred to the West End and around the world - it subsequently won the Glasgow Citizens Theatre Best World Playwrighting Award in 1973, and the 1975 Broadway production earned actress Shirley Knight a Tony Award.

Set in a Lower East Side bar in New York on Valentine’s Day in the mid seventies, five disparate characters, survivors of the promise of the Kennedy years, drink alone.

Of his powerful and moving Kennedy’s Children, Robert Patrick writes ‘...The theme of the play is the death of the idea of heroes as guides for our lives. The form of the play is fragmentation, separation of people, one from another.’

When the dream of the promise of the Kennedy years turns into a nightmare, what becomes of... Kennedy’s Children?

Tickets are €17/€14 and can be purchased from the Mullingar Art Centres box office or by phoning the Arts Centre on 044-9347777.
